Inside there is a metal adjustable fitting with 4 coloured incandescent bulbs, and an A4 sheet of instructions.

General Description
The sound to light unit has four lamp circuits. The lamps are arranged in four different colours, yellow, blue, red and green. They provide a "chaser" effect, the pulse rate depending upon the rhythmic characteristics of the local sounds. A direct audio connection is not required as there is an inbuilt acoustic detector which, due to automatic electronic level circuitry, responds equally to both very high and very low levels of sound. A manual sensitivity control is therefore not required. Under "silent" conditions the lamps automatically chase at a low pulse rate thereby maintaining a changing light pattern. There is an on/off switch mounted on the rear of the housing.
Its been plugged in and the bulbs all work, and they flash in time with the music
