INTRODUCTION

The purpose of this Booklet, which is intended for the use of ALL RANKS, ALL ARMS, is to prepare you against the possibility of finding yourself stranded in unfamiliar surroundings on land or sea in SOUTH-EAST ASIA, and to familiarise you with such conditions as you may expect to find. Your chances of survival will be increased if you know something of these conditions before they are encountered.

Fear of the unknown reduces the ability of most people to think and plan coherently, whereas if an individual is armed beforehand with the knowledge of how to behave under con-ditions he may meet in unfamiliar surroundings, his chances of survival are greater.

Of a necessity, much of the advice in this Booklet will be of a general nature, but an endeavour has been made to supply specialised information and instructions to cover the type of country to be found in the area covered by these notes.
